My computer is plugged into the control outlet. When I standby computer all those little power suckers, modem, cordless phone, printer, battery charger, speakers, etc. are turned off. Simple and effective. I don't know if it will ever pay for itself in energy savings, but it already has in good feelings. You need one of these.

Belkin Pivot-Plug Surge Protectors

This surge protector was not my first choice, but I'm glad I purchased it. The Pivot plugs are very useful. There's plenty of space to put a Brick into 4 of the pivots facing out and alternating with regular plugs, facing them up.

Great product and worth the purchase.

I purchased a surge protector for my television from amazon.com. Amazon said free shipping and when I ordered it the total on my online bill said free shipping as well. When I received the offical bill afterwards they charged me $25 dollars for shipping and handling. This is false advertisement!!! I complained to the company and they told me they can't do anything about it. I will never buy anything from here again.

I purchased this switch to allow me to use the single optical output from my dvd player to feed both my headphone setup, and my surround sound speakers. I tried several other products, and none worked well. I almost gave up on a good optical splitter, until I found the Nyrius SW100. This product works very well. Basically, it will allow you to either split a single source and send it to up to 3 different receivers (e.g. headphone dac/amp, surround sound receiver, computer) OR feed a single receiver with three different sources (e.g. Playstation 3, DVD player, laptop digital audio out).

It's inexpensive, feels well made, and works without a hitch.

Also note that this product does not require a power supply.

Xantrex Technologies 851-0400 XPower Plus 400-Watt Inverter

Several of the Xantrex inverters including this one have much looser frequency specs compared to the last generation of inverters which were typically 60 Hz +/- 0.01%. Many of the current crop of these inverters have 60 +/-4 Hz which is 60 Hz +/- 7%. To be fair, I've noticed a number of inverters made by other companies also have relaxed this spec. I measured the output frequency of several models and found their outputs to range from 58 Hz to 64 Hz. I didn't test to see if the frequency changed with temperature, input voltage, load, or other other factors. I received this about a month ago, and it has been a life saver. I have chronic pain in my back, and car rides are awful for me. This last weekend I went to Kansas City, MO (from South Dakota) and had very little trouble on the car ride. I know it is because I was able to use my heating pad in the car!
