I was hunting for something to help a young sappling take root in the yard. We have sandier, dry soil and the tree had small and sparse leaves and did not seem to be doing well in the hot, summer weather. The tree was a family gift given later in the growing season. So, I ordered the root waterer from this company. After six weeks, I can say that the tree is covered with leaves and is thriving well. The tree almost died and had no leaves, even though I had tried to water from the surface. The device slides easily into the soil and comes out virtually clean. It worked fine for me. If a common-variety garden hose fits the faucet, then this should as well. It comes with a padlock; I'm guessing it's so that you won't have to figure out what size padlock to fit it. It hasn't been tested to see if it can be defeated, but seems to serve its purpose. I like that it's small and doesn't rely on being secured to another part of the plumbing.

It's a two-piece system. The inner part threads onto the faucet. On the bottom of the inner part is the tab for the padlock; it swivels freely independent of the faucet part. The outer sleeve prevents gripping of the threading part and rotates freely with the padlock tab.
