I thought I got a great deal on this combo item, but it only worked for three months before failing. I guess when it comes to my family's safety I shouldn't be so concerned with the best price and just buy an item like this from a local store that I can return it to with no problems.

I purchased this switch to allow me to use the single optical output from my dvd player to feed both my headphone setup, and my surround sound speakers. I tried several other products, and none worked well. I almost gave up on a good optical splitter, until I found the Nyrius SW100. This product works very well. Basically, it will allow you to either split a single source and send it to up to 3 different receivers (e.g. headphone dac/amp, surround sound receiver, computer) OR feed a single receiver with three different sources (e.g. Playstation 3, DVD player, laptop digital audio out).

It's inexpensive, feels well made, and works without a hitch.

Also note that this product does not require a power supply.

Install of the detector was easy and the product is great. Voice alert tells you what kind of alert (either smoke or carbon monoxide). White color blends nicely with the ceiling. My only negative is that you have to twist the detector off of its holder an unplug the wires, in order to replace the battery.

This is the second First Alert Carbon Monoxide detector we've owned. The first went out in 6 months. This model went out in 1 month. The alarm kept going off. I moved a Kidde model into the room and it showed no carbon monoxide in the air. We chucked the First Alerts into the trash!

Xantrex Technologies 851-0400 XPower Plus 400-Watt Inverter

Several of the Xantrex inverters including this one have much looser frequency specs compared to the last generation of inverters which were typically 60 Hz +/- 0.01%. Many of the current crop of these inverters have 60 +/-4 Hz which is 60 Hz +/- 7%. To be fair, I've noticed a number of inverters made by other companies also have relaxed this spec. I measured the output frequency of several models and found their outputs to range from 58 Hz to 64 Hz. I didn't test to see if the frequency changed with temperature, input voltage, load, or other other factors. I suppose the reason for this change in specs is that these manufacturers are now cost cutting to the extent of eliminating a 30 cent quartz crystal. The frequency variation is most likely ... Petzl E47 PS Tikka Plus Four-LED Headlamp, Soft

Inspired by a fellow visually-impaired photographer on Flickr ([...]), I went to my local outdoors store and bought this LED headlamp, the Tikka Plus, from Petzl. The headlamp is great for reading! I have been using booklights to supplement ambient room lighting for a while now, but have never been satisfied. My eyesight forces me to hold the book quite close, so these booklights are often obstructed by my own forehead. While the headlamp is not perfect, it is a significant advance in convenience and quality.

Personally, I would prefer a more diffuse light and one with more low intensity options. The light is designed to throw a wide beam outdoors or in caves, so the light hitting a page a few inches a way works more like a spotlight. I will experiment ... Read More:

I received this about a month ago, and it has been a life saver. I have chronic pain in my back, and car rides are awful for me. This last weekend I went to Kansas City, MO (from South Dakota) and had very little trouble on the car ride. I know it is because I was able to use my heating pad in the car! I love this produce and would recommend it to anyone.
