These blocks and the unit blocks are an excellent product, well made. They were a present, but similar ones that our children had were loved and cherished. Buy both sets.

My boys are 3 and 6, and both will play with this toy for hours (alone and with their friends). We dump the pieces out on the living room floor and my husband and I have to make the boys put it away! The gears are really brightly colored but the motorized remote control piece is what really captivates the kids. I am looking forward to purchasing more gears to go with this set so we can make some really complex creations, and also have two remotes. The only complaint I have with this toy is the sticker sheet that comes with the set -- the stickers have not been stamped out of the sheet, so you literally have to cut them out with scissors, and then cut a hole in each one so you can attach gears without the sticker in the way. Melissa& Doug 200-pc. Wood Block Set

These are just what I wanted! This was the biggest set I could find with colorful blocks, and they seem to be well made. These remind me of the ones I played with as a child, so I know I'll enjoy playing these with my son. I personally like the size of the blocks--they're not for babies, but perfect for my three year old, and will be a good toy to grow with him.

I bought this for my 2 year old who loves blocks. She can't grasp the idea with this style of blocks however, my 3 year old loves them. Only bad thing, there is no lid for the case. It is a solid sturdy case, it seems ridiculous that they wouldn't put a lid on it.

Gizmos and Gears delighted my 5 year old granddaughter. She has all but constructed a new machine for spinning yarn into gold. She loves it and her inventiveness and creative juices are surpassing my highest expectations. The brighter the child, the more appeal. She turned 5 in July, and will enter 1st grade in August. So parents who are thinking about purchasing this toy, by all means get it! It will keep your children entertained for hours without supervision. It is better than advertised!

This is the third Gears set my [..]. son has added to his collection and it is by far the best and his favorite. He started out with the Gears small starter set which was a good idea. He requested Gizmos next for Christmas, then we added this per his request as his Easter gift from his grandparents. He spent hours putting it together and loved it. This set has the ocean colors, for instance the base is blue rather than the green used in the other sets. It is so much fun to watch the sea creatures move with every turn. I highly recommend this set.

No cheap paint to deteriorate. Nice, dense wood. Smooth finish. Rounded edges and corners. Reasonably precise milling. Good variety of shapes. Pretty much everything building blocks should be.

The only possible problem I can see is you might wind up wanting to get a second set. The single set is plenty for our two children to have fun with, but I suppose if you want to get extreme with your creations, you might want more blocks.

If you're satisfied with buildings that aren't taller than you, one set should be enough. :)

These are great gears! They have everything you'd want in a gear system. First of all the construction quality is good, these are solid pieces. In the year and a half that we've had these they are as good today as when we bought them. The solid construction also includes good gear interface, so these things really interlock well. Good interfaces, and solid construction also means they are strong enough to build machines that do actual work.

The set includes several base plates which interlock like puzzle pieces. About half the time these are out at our house these bases have been built into boxes. Soft & Sturdy Jumbo Blocks

I purchased these blocks for my 15 month old grandson for Christmas. They are absolutely wonderful for quiet play. They stack well due to the very slight tackiness of the surface, which means that they don't slide apart or topple like wooden blocks do when not stacked directly on top of each other. He has been successful in building a stack 6-8 blocks high with the various shapes before it falls over. He enjoys kicking them and throwing them, and they will "bounce" rather than hurt furniture and other children. It is an interesting concept but I would recommend only to children over 8 years old, with the fact they might get bored after the first day. The mechanism works poorly. But I do believe as an educational toy it serves a purpose, as soon as children are introduced to a first level of complex mechanisms.
