I remember loving this game as a kid, and I still remember much about the authors in the deck 35-40 years later. I just gave this game to my own boys, ages 11 and 8, and they really liked it, too. On a recent trip, we played it in the airports several times to pass the time, and they always wanted to play more. My only complaint is that the instructions are not thorough. We had a couple of basic questions about the rules that aren't answered in the paper rules that come with the deck, and I couldn't get the answers to our questions online, either.

LeapFrog Explorer Smart Globe

I have a 6 year old who loves to learn, who is a great reader, and who can sit still for hours, but I have to say this didn't hold his attention like I hoped. He had even asked for a globe, and we have so many great leapfrog products I figured this would be a hit. My take is that if it had some kind of screen like a video game attached to it, he would have loved it, but that is hindsight. Still, I think it is pretty awesome, and hope that over time so will my son.

As someone wrote before, you have to be careful with those stickers, if not, you will rip the globe.My problem is with he hear sliding sswitch. iy is supposed to say facts about oceans and stuff. but it recognises states and conitnents. when I slide it to 'countries' it does not recognise. when i slide it to' oceans' , it does not recognise, nor says any factsa bout any ocean.[...]
overall, globe is OK, voice is not very clear. nothing great, and definitely has the fel of being cheaply made.

I love these games! I think I have most of the versions, and this one is as much fun as the rest. What could be more fun (and educational) than a hand of cards where you can not only learn something but also get into the "chess" mentality of strategizing in order to win? Science always seems so impossible, but just checking out what a few folks did through the years is pretty amazing and the pictures make science seem more human. My family and I love these card games and I think they're great for pre-teens and teens, especially!

I read another review and bought this for my 6 yr old (entering 1st grade soon) thinking it would be a piece of cake. Both she and my 4 yr old have played with it a little bit, but it hasn't held their attention. The reason is because it's over their heads. They can use the pen to follow the story but the interaction demands too much of them (and my 6 yr old's no dummy!) For example, they're supposed to point out the grammatical mistakes early in the story. Later on there's a multiplaction table that shows everything from 1x1 to 9x9. (5x5=25, 5x6=30, etc). My 4 yr old had no idea what it was saying so she randomly pointed to numbers, got bored and walked away. We did sit with our 6 yr old and go through the bar graphs together. This was a good ...
