If you want to get started in RC Airplanes this is a pretty good choice because it works and it is inexpensive. I took mine out and got some really nice flights. It has a pretty good range on it. This was with no wind and I recommend you make your first flight session in no or very little wind. When the wind kicked up I had trouble getting it to fly.
About the batteries. There is a little battery that you put into the plane to make the prop turn. This can be charged up from the included hand-held transmitter/controller in about ten minutes which is very convenient.(You dont have to go home to charge it back up, just plug it into the transmittter for 10 minutes) The transmitter itself requires 8 AA batteries so make sure you buy ... I bought this for my kids about seven months ago, and they still play with it all the time. It works best on a vinyl or other smooth floor. I just changed the batteries in the remote and the plane today--that's how much my kids play with this. This is a good toy for kids around age 3 or 4, but even a 2-year-old can figure it out if he's interested in remote controlled stuff.

I bought replacement main & tail rotors for my Air Hog R/C helicoptor I have. I've not yet had to replace them, so can't really rate their performance, but they look fine.

I have a 4 year old son and 5 nephews ages 1 to 6. They all love this toy. The hardest part is getting them to understand that the shaking makes it works, but once they've got it, they love it! We've had this toy around for over a year and it is still in good shape.

I bought this for by 5 year old despite warnings by other reviewers that the toy was very easy to break. I would have to say that it is not the best design I have seen and I do see how the launching bracket could be torn off of the plane fairly easily. Armed with this knowledge I instructed my son on being careful when sliding the plane onto the gun and it has worked out well.
The toy is lots of fun, very dynamic, great sounds (loud though). My boy loves it.
That having been said the whole shaking thing doesn't make a lot of sense, it is highly non-intuitive. I guess I'm missing the significance of it.

Like most toys, the enjoyment that a child receives is a function of the child and not necessarily the toy itself. My 2 year old boy loves this toy. I like the fold-away rotors. If they were rigid I am fairly certain that at least one of them would have broken by now. As it is, all work fine.
The helicopter I received is fairly large. If it were any bigger or heavier I don't know if my 2 year old could even handle it properly (and my son is very big for his age - 97th percentile in height).

My three-year-old fell in love with beautiful, colorful Dodger the Milk Truck on Bob the Builder. When we saw a Dodger for sale in the store I snapped him right up. The problems started though when my little one could not make the milk crates stay in the back of Dodger's truck bed. The milk crates are apparently only meant to stand alone and not be actually trucked around and delivered like the real Dodger does. My advice to parents is to lose the milk crates, otherwise you'll be like me, constantly trying to find a way to tape, glue or otherwise affix the crates in the back of the truck.
I just got this plane two days ago for my birthday. I charged it up and flew it right away. I had a blast. I crashed alot, but it was still fun. The next day I try flying it and its rotor spins slowly and then turns off. I try it again and it doesn't turn on. I don't know what the problem is, but I'm quite disapointed. For 40 dollars you think you'd get a plane that would last longer than two days. I also didn't like how they put indoor plane. I noticed it could fly outdoors, and if crashing to much was the thing that broke it, it sure would of helped flying outdoors in wide open space. Not flying around vases and chairs in my living room.
