Battlelore Board Game

Complicated enough without being overly so, this game has earned a spot on our game shelf. My 13 year old son and I have finally found a game we both want to play. Monopoly is hereinafter banished from our living room. This is right up there with Axis and Allies for me - my all time favorite - but this game only takes an hour! Buy this game.

Gamewright Scrambled States 2 Card Game

I use this product in my classroom and my kids really love it. As a matter of fact, one of my students brought her copy of the game for us to play and I just had to get one of my own. It uses kinesthetic strategies along with geographic knowledge to reinforce lesssons and facts about our nation. My kids beg to play it. This is a wonderful learning tool.

The idea behind this game is really simple, and the rules were easy enough for my son to understand right from the start (he's now 6 but started playing this game when he was 5). It's great for kids to learn addition, subtraction, and even simple fractions without even realizing it because they're having fun while doing it. I also like how compact this game is.

Handy Card Holder

At the price offered I expected to get four of these. I got that impression due to the fact that other offerings of similar products come in sets of four. I got one, and the total cost including shipping came to almost eleven dollars. It's a little piece of plastic for holding playing cards. I returned the item for lack of value. I would expect them to be available in toy stores for around 99 cents apiece...not $10.50.

Sight Word Flash Cards Level 3

These flashcards are a nice tool for sight words. I wish they included some kind of ring, so they could be flipped. They would also benefit from a little page of directions for teaching suggestions, games and activities. The box includes none of these. Also, I think there are too many sight words included. I really only wanted the Dolch sight words, but these include the Fry and Dolch words. They are printed on nice durable cardstock, with a nice, readable font. However the fun value is literally zero, so look around for something like Wrap Ups, or Flash Kids sight words. Maybe there is something slightly more creative. Memoir '44

Background: I have fond memories of spending New Years Eve with my buddies in HS sitting around (the original) Axis & Allies.

As much as I love Axis & Allies, the setup is tedious and the learning curve is steep; not a good combination for bringing new gamers into the fold. For someone who's interested in WWII and/or tabletop gaming, M'44 is a godsend.

M'44 is a tactical game covering some of the major battles of WWII, with expansions available for additional theaters of war. The game itself involves tiles (for a completely modular board), plastic minis (meeple = my people... moldiers = my soldiers? lol), special dice for combat, and cards for movement/abilities; four great tastes that taste great together.
