My son got this from his Nana when he was about 6 months old. He did not care for it at all since it only plays 1 song on either number or shape mode (2 songs total). Now that he is 11 months he's suddenly interested in this toy again. He likes to push the nose which lights up and says different phrases. When it laughs, he laughs too! he also likes to take the lid on and off. I gave up trying to show him how to put the shapes through the holes b/c they are very hard to push through. he has some circles from a different shape sorter and I glanced into his playpen last night while I was making dinner and he was putting circles through the right hole! all by himself! the only complaints I have at that there are only 2 songs and you have to switch ... This toy is awsome my kid really injoy it specially getting points by way of solving some problem. I encourage my kids to go to Math & Science to get their points.

For me it is very educational at the same time your playing with it.

My son does not ejoy this learning game as much as spongebob, thomas and sonic. The games appear to be boring and can not keep a childs attention.

Vtech - V.Smile Pocket Learning System

A couple years ago I purchased the TV version of this, along with about 15 games. The system did not work, so I took it back for a new one. That still did not work right, so I purchased the hand held version. That one had a short in it, so I took it back for a second one. That one worked for maybe 3 or 4 minutes at a time (after you spent 10 minutes trying to get it to work), so I sent it in for a new one. My 3rd one (and 5th V Smile system) still does not work right - it still acts like it has a short in it, like the others I had. I have spent literally hours trying to get these to work - with no luck. My kids are dying to play all these great games, but we can't get any system to work. My daughter loves this DVD player. I bought it for a long flight (5 hours and vacation). It can withstand a lot of tough play and falls. It didn't skip or become disrupted at all. I wish the screen was a bit bigger but it is easy to use and she managed to learn which buttons to press on her own. The battery life was good for a couple of hours of continuous viewing. It has a stand that props it up if the kids don't want to hold it. I would recommend it even though it is pricey.

This one is hard to find! It's bigger than the others and very colorful. My 6 year old grandson just loves it. Again it comes with a code and then the kids can go on the educational free Webkinz site. Grown-ups can play along. This one was more expensive, but very nice.

My daughter, now seven, is in an advanced reading class. I think part of that reason is we encourage her to read and a big part of that was her using the leappad.
