I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 5 year old son. He loved playing with it and he loved having us watch him play it. He took it to our family get together and my neice and nephew who are 4 and 7 also loved it. They would take turns playing the games and argue over who got to play with it next. I also have a daycare and the children all love taking turns with it. It is a little advanced for my 2 year olds with some of the games however, we seem to be able to find something for everyone. This was a good buy!

This is one of my son's favorite Leapster cartridges. One "trick" that he discovered is that one can play the games for different letters without having to trace/write any of them. As other reviewers have correctly pointed out the tracing can be too demanding and frustrating, especially for the younger children. This is my son's work-around: After playing the "A" game, press the "Home" button on the Leapster, and then return to the games and one then gets the game for letter "B" just as if one had completed tracing the previous letter. This allows even the younger kids, like my son, who cannot trace well yet to still enjoy this cartridge immensely. There are different games for different letters. The "A" game which unfortunately comes first, ... Read More:

I'm surprised by the number of "5 stars" and that is what motivated me to write this review.
My 5 year old enjoys using my laptop and is a whiz at his Leapster, and this led his grandfather to think this would be a great gift. When we opened the gift it looked so neat, I could see the attraction, but I agree with all of those who have talked about the small black-and-white display with very poor resolution. The games are not nearly as good as those on the Leapster and the laptop is pretty large to take places. After a few minutes playing on his laptop, he always asks to play on my laptop. If anything, it has increased his desire to use my computer, and this is not good.
We have a VTECH digital camera that is great ... Read More:

This is a gift for my granddaughter but I of course had to sit and play with it. It is adorable...colorful, lots of things to entertain and learn with. Hopefully the company will make more of them. This should keep a small one entertained for quite a while..and they will learn while they are playing.

Spy-glass was an authentic looking toy for kids 10yrs and under.
Adults were surprised I found such a great looking toy. Looking through the spy-glass seemed blury; but that's because the magnification really worked! My 4yr old nephew was thrilled with the flashlight; but adults like myself found the bright red beam to be too much for the eyes. I'd recommend this toy for any little Pirate.

My daughter likes this game very well. She plays it every night just before going to bed. I have had no problems with it. She has already mastered all the games on it though within the first day she had it.

I still think it's overpriced for a "toy" and wish the projection was wider. Tilting the sphere creates a blurry projection so I leave it shooting straight up. I place it on a small side table about 1.5 ft. from the ground and the projection diameter is about 5 feet. I just wish it was huge, like the size of the whole room. You have to be in a pitch black room for the best effect. It makes a whirring sound if it's on rotate, but the sound isn't too loud. I wish a toy manufacturer would make a new and improved one that doesn't cost a lot, it's 2008!

My kids (daughter age 9 1/2 and son age 4 1/2 at the time) got this for Christmas last year and still enjoy the activities and science projects in it - and I have fun with them! It can get a little messy when my son wants to do some of it by himself, but we've learned a lot and had fun at the same time! My older daughter might be getting a little old for some of it, but she still liked it quite a bit. It was very exciting for the younger one, especially as he's gotten older this year.
