I purchased the unit brand new, installed good quality batteries and installed the software on the computer and updated the software on the unit to newest version. in a clear field with NO METALS, power lines, watches ets. it displayed a magentic error icon as well as an odd lat/log. using another gps i entered the gps cord.from this unit and it shows that my field in maine has been telported to south eastern CHINA!!! I rebooted it many times and same results, new batteries same results. the moon i could see was indicated as not being present.
entered in the correct gps cord. manually and it worked perfectly. also the magnetic icon dissapeared. however after shut down and startup it said i was in china and all needed to be reentered. ... Read More:
My daughter recieved this as a gift and I was pretty skeptical, but lo and behold -- we successfully raised all ten caterpillars and released them as adult butterflies. You don't need to feed or interact with the caterpillars: they come in transparent sealed containers with their own food. This means that kids can't play with them (my daughter was disappointed that her new pets couldn't walk on her fingers) but also means that you do not need to deal with the mountains of caterpillar poop that they produce.
When they pupate, you open the containers and pin the lids (where they instinctively attach themselves) inside the pavillion. Everything the insructions say will happen does, in fact, happen, and within a week or so your beautiful ... Read More:

My son got this kit for his 10th birthday six months ago. Both of his folks are electricians, so he naturally has a lot of curiosity. It's seen hours of use, by a bunch of boys ages 8 to 10. On the down side, one of the pegs on the board has snapped off (doesn't affect performance), and the speaker has been a bit troublesome (sometimes loud enough, sometimes too quiet).
On the up side, the issues have been minor, and the pieces are surprisingly durable. The kids are learning to troubleshoot their work, checking for loose connections and misplaced devices. The "blueprints" for each of the circuits are very clear. The snap-together, modular design is far less cumbersome for young hands than any of the other lab kits I've seen. There's ... Read More:

A friend gave this to us as a hand me down toy and my 12mo old daughter absolutely loves it!!! She bounces up and down to the music, pushes the button, and follows the train around. I wouldn't have paid $35.00 for it but, overall it's a great toy.

My son's special needs teacher recommended this, and we love it. My son sings the letters and has made great progress. I am glad I bought it.

I do home daycare so I figured this would be an excellent way to incorporate education and fun into my toddlers' daily experience. I was wrong. Although the kids love to play on the pony, the TV part of it seems useless. The kids are so enthrawled with the pony that the TV just fades into the distance for them. Even my [...] gets frustrated when I ask her to look up and see what the TV is doing while she rides. The concept is great, don't get me wrong. I just think it needs a lot of improvement.

We bought this game for our son on his 6th birthday. He had a pirate themed party. It's an easy game to grasp - Hide-n-seek and hot/cold. When you get warm and the X changes to yellow you are really warm. You almost have to be on top of it for it to change to red (hot). It's a fun game though. He likes it more when he hides it and mommy and daddy have to find it. I can see the novelty wearing off soon, but it's been fun.
This is a great baby/toddler age toy. I haven't met a kid that age yet who didn't love it. It's a wonderful distraction in the kitchen...they let go of your leg, quit whining, and start dancing and playing even if they are hungry.

My 4 year old daughter always wants to do things on the "puter". She got this for her birthday and it is perfect. She loves to draw and create things, so this is perfect. The stylus is a little frustrating for me because it does not work the same as a mouse, but she picked riht up on it. I am amazed with her hand eye coordination - and it keeps getting better. She quickly picked up on how to change from painting to coloring to stamping. I can't believe how well she was able to master it. She loves typing things to learn her letters. I love it.

First - the first one I got didn't work. Very disappointing for the five year old in question, but these things happen. I didn't mark the rating down as a result - I comment on it only so that if a pattern emerges you have that information
Second - it doesn't come with a lot of games. She was tired of the games it came with about two hours later. On the other hand, being five, part of the thrill of having a birthday is all of the new stuff... two weeks later she continues to play those same games quite enthusiastically and they seem to be the appropriate degree of difficulty.
Third - if you are buying a leapster for a girl, get this one. It probably sounds silly to everyone else out there, but it really made it special. Her ... Read More:
