My daughter received this puzzle for her first birthday. Although she gravitates toward animals, she still finds this puzzle interesting. The painted pictures underneath that correlate with the vehicle is helpful in putting the pieces back. The big chunky knobs make the pieces easy to hold. The knobs are screwed on from the back securely. My daughter's favorite hobby is banging the pieces together! The puzzle is holding up well. The wood is a little soft and shows indentations from possible "hits." However, I have not seen any teeth marks on them from teething... :)

I purchased this puzzle for my 3 year old grandson as a birthday present. He took all the pieces out and when he put the last piece in, it blue the siren and the fireman talked. Then he had to find if every piece did that. So he lifted up every piece one by one. It took him 15 min. to find out how the siren blew. He saw every piece had a sensor in it.The puzzle works just the way it supposed to. It is well worth the money. I wish I would have purchased it when he was 2 instead.

I bought this puzzle for my 2 year old. She plays with the chunky puzzles and the ones with large knobs but they were easy for her. She had no trouble with this one. She loves dressing the ballerina in all of the different combinations. We have not had a problem with the wrapping or the pieces not fitting it. This is an excellent, well-made puzzle that my daughter loves.

These products are designed with a small light sensitive button under the number, letter or shape. Note that while I am only referring to the number game below that the same analysis applies to the letter (ABCs) and shape games. When you place the number in its appropriate slot (Example the # 2 in the number 2 slot) the game will say "two". The problem with the design is that it will also say two if your hand passes over the 2 slot while you are on your way to placing a 3 in the 3 slot. It will also say 2 if you cover the sensitivity button in the 2 slot with a 5, 6, 7, etc. I returned the numbers and letters game because the design problem of having the game calling out other numbers ... For a Melissa and Doug product, this one is disappointing. I would not recommend it to a friend. The sounds do not accurately represent the instruments and all it plays is a small part of Old MacDonald.

I read the review by the parent with a daughter who is frustrated by this puzzle. Any toy, book, CD or DVD is subject to the enjoyment of an individual child.

In our case, our 2 year old boy has enjoyed this puzzle immensely since he was 18 months. The reviewer is correct about the pieces being asymmetrical. For our little guy, it wasn't a big deal. The ones that were easy, he did. The others, we showed him. He eventually learned the concept of turning pieces around. But, that's just him. There are DVDs and books that reviewers swear by and he's not interested.

The puzzle is colorful, well made, and he enjoys the "peek a boo" aspect of seeing what animal is under each piece.

Our son is just about 1 1/2 and loves puzzles right now. In this bundle, there are 2 that are great for his level. The alphabet, while he's highly motivated to identify letters, is still a little difficult because there are so many pieces--but it will be great to grow into shortly as he continues to develop. The other two are perfect for his current readiness. Love the wooden puzzles-- durable. These are great too because they have the pegs that are perfect for toddler grasping.
