This fun little flick, a modernization of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, is definitely one of the better 90's teen flicks. Instead of using stereotypical cliques as a crutch like many similar films, this movie plays with the ideas of stereotypes in order to create this successful and highly entertaining satire that can work on both the straight forward level and the satirical level. All in all, it's a good watch. Definitely the best of the "guy gets paid to go with girl and ends up falling for her" movies.
There's a lot going on in this movie. From the use (perhaps overuse?) of music, to the clever and self-aware references to Shakespeare, to the subtle turns the characters make, to the performances of these actors that, subsequent ... Read More:

Very entertaining. Brought me back to my younger days. This is a great movie for kids and adults. Don Knotts is a classic who all will enjoy.

Having never seen this film before yesterday, I was shocked to learn that it had been nominated for an Oscar! It is one of the most unwatchable films ever to receive that distinction. Self-absorbed, bitchy, whiny, ungrateful, boring women sitting around kvetching about their lousy husbands, their indulgent affairs with teenagers, their loneliness. Good grief, shut up already. No wonder your marriages sucked. Had Jill Clayburgh's character spent a little more time paying attention to her family and a little less time boo-hooing about it to her loser friends, there would have been no need to make the film.
Waaaah, waaah, waaah. Call a waaaaaaahbulance for her.
And of course, it's filled with plenty of gratuitous shots of a topless, ... Read More:

I've been a fan of the Aeon Flux series since the half hour episodes started in 1996. Previously, I had seen the Liquid Television shorts, which I also enjoyed. While I do understand that the timeline of the Aeon Flux universe is muddled, there is definitively a "starting" and an "ending" episode in the half hour series. When I watched on MTV, there was a definitive order to the episodes, which made sense. Monica going from obviously having been part of a larger single country, to the delapitated state we see it in later. So, my disappointment is with this not containing only the "ending" episodes. "The Demiurge" belongs on this tape, but "A Last Time for Everything" should have been on this tape, rather than "Mission Inifnite".
