Good movie to see for those who are a James Van der Beek fan (star of Dawson's Creek). James does an excellent job in this movie and seems to fit his role perfectly. I'm not a big Dylan McDermott fan but he does a good job as well in this movie. I would definitely recommend this movie to others.

Overall, I liked The Butterfly Effect, but it feels poorly executed. Until the movie started really getting interesting, it felt cliche, had a knack for getting under my skin, and was laughable at the same time. I never really connected with it, like 12 Monkeys. It twisted and turned all over the place too, yet becomes the exact opposite, very predictable, once it starts getting better. There is just something missing in the beginning... I don't really know what it is, but even though the movie gets much better later on, it can't make up for it. On the positive side though, the plot line and ideas were really good. What a wonderful performance. I was very pleasantly surprised to see Ashton's portrayal of a good brother and son, a bickering brother, a shy man, a gentle, kind and honest man. This was a fearless performance by Ashton. He did not hold back.
Although I think that Amanda did a nice job, her psychologically abusive, everything-must-be-MY-WAY character was not very likeable for the majority of the film.
