Murder She Purred: A Mrs. Murphy Mystery

directed by: Simon Wincer

This movie is simple, but the cat and dog are great. I do resent the fact that I can't take it over to DVD, considering it is out of print.

Inside the Third Reich

starring: Rutger Hauer, John Gielgud, Maria Schell, Blythe Danner, Trevor Howard
directed by: Marvin J. Chomsky

September 15, 1993
This movie is one of my favorites. It runs 4 hours so you have to have time available to view it all. The show starts out showing some of the horrors of the holocaust and some of the death and destruction caused by World War II. Let the squeamish beware.

No question, this miniseries comes from the early-1980's and is limited by special effects and budget available at the time. By comparison, "Hitler: The Rise of Evil," from 2003, is as good if not better. Still, if one pays attention to the main story and the performances given by the many featured actors, "Inside the Third Reich" is worth anyone's time.

The cast is a star-studded one. Rutger Hauer plays Albert Speer and John Gielgud plays his father. Derek Jacobi is ... Read More:

I hate musicals. I love this movie. Everything is there. Great writing, great acting, great directing. I agree with my fellow reviewer who said this is a must-see every 4th of July.

Futureworld

starring: Peter Fonda, Blythe Danner, Arthur Hill, Yul Brynner, John P. Ryan
directed by: Richard T. Heffron

May 15, 2001
Films buffs will want to know that the Spanish R2 'Mundo Futuro' DVD is missing footage. There are four cuts totaling 2.5 minutes of missing footage:

1. The pre-credit sequence is missing.
2. Some dialoge during the press invite, round table scene.
3. When Peter Fonda explores the remains of Westworld.
4. Dialogue at the very end.

Until a better version is released, your best bet is to pick up the R2 UK full frame edition which includes all of the above cuts.

directed by: Beeban Kidron

To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar is a cute and funny film about three drag queens who want to be legends. Patrick Swayze is the prettiest man/woman ever! Wesley Snipes, well he isn't so graceful. This is a great buddy buddy flick, check it out sometime.

starring: Shari Albert, Jon Bon Jovi, Connie Britton, Blythe Danner, Marcia DeBonis

January 12, 1999
I really enjoyed this movie and thought it should have done better in the box office than it did. Lauren Holly was really good as the girl in the town that wants more than she has. JBJ plays the guy without a clue. There are enough of those out there.

This is an amazing video and should be shown to any class learning about reproduction, and or womens rights. It is an essential part of American history.

Lincoln (4pc)

starring: Jason Robards, James Earl Jones, Glenn Close, Richard Widmark, Arnold Schwarzenegger
directed by: Peter W. Kunhardt

June 09, 1998
***** I found this 4-series biography set to be ONE OF THE BEST BIOGRAPHIES I HAVE EVER SEEN. There was more information about Abraham Lincoln in these videos than the shorter, and less interesting, A&E or History Channel versions. The presentation was done very tastefully and thoroughly. The pictures and theme music seem historically accurate. Also, the voices of James Earl Jones and Jason Robards literally gave me the chills for their perfect portrayals and narration. Also, no one voices a better Mary Lincoln than the one-and-only Glenn Close. On a whole, the video was excellent. These videos even entertain children of all ages.

The downside is that this edition is no longer in production, and only available in VHS format. So, if you get your hands on a set of these ... Read More:

Mr & Mrs Bridge

starring: Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, Blythe Danner, Simon Callow, Kyra Sedgwick
directed by: James Ivory

January 27, 1993
It is just a wonderful movie that did not get any play in the theatre or anywhere else. I rented it for the first time because of the cast and loved it, that is why I have added it to my collection. If we all live long enough we will go through the same thing, it's also a different period of time, but I could relate since I was on the fringe of that generation and as I look at things now maybe it was not all that bad. We have lost such an icon in Paul Newman, but I am glad that his wife is still with us. That is another thing that makes this movie so wonderfu is that Joann Woodward stars in it as his wife. They are always great and wonderful together. I'm so glad to have been able to follow Mr. Newman's career, as I'm 70y/o and saw it from the beginning. It seems that we are so caught ... Read More:

A Call to Remember

starring: Blythe Danner, Joe Mantegna, David Lascher, Kevin Zegers, Joe Spano
directed by: Jack Bender

September 08, 1998
a better movie. There is nudity so it isn't a family movie. The subject of the movie is not too bad and could have been watched by most of the family if not for the nudity. I don't even know why it is in this movie. It did nothing for it except detract from it. The movie doesn't do a great job at explaining why the oldest son is so angry. The acting is fine but could use some fine tuning.

A couple and their children live with the deaths of their previous family members during the war. A sad, sad story.
