What is true love based on .. a dream of something better or a matter of the heart? ... and what would you choose? Good movie to make you realize the choices that we make will make or break our lives.

The legend of Fa Mulan was one of my favorite stories as a Chinese-American growing up in San Francisco some decades ago. I now live abroad and generally make it back to the Bay Area every summer. The year that "Mulan" was released, I didn't get to San Francisco until after its initial theatrical run. I did find it at a smaller neighborhood theater and my father immediately agreed to see it with me. To my great surprise, what we saw was a special version dubbed in Cantonese. My Chinese wasn't good enough to catch most of it, but I could understand enough to not have to pester my father with questions throughout the movie. About halfway through, he asked if I could recognize the voice of the captain. I couldn't, and with a smile he told me it was Jackie ... Read More:

This movie is not worth purchasing or watching. It is NOTHING like the mini-series, "Young Catherine" starring Julia Ormond in 1991. I returned it.
It seems that the mini series is unavailable at this time in (true) DVD format. If it ever becomes available it is the production to watch concerning the life and times of "Catherine the Great".

Shadow Watcher
Nobody Drowns in Mineral Lake
THE TERMINAL is the most charming film that director Steven Spielberg has made in years.
Inspired by an actual incident, the touching comedy stars Tom Hanks as Viktor Navorski, a non-English-speaking citizen from a small, imaginary Eastern European country who arrives at New York's JFK airport only to learn that a revolution has taken place in his nation. Thus, because of bureaucratic glitches, he cannot legally enter the United States, nor can he return home.
He is forced to remain inside the airport terminal until his situation can be rectified.
Inside the vast terminal, which, incidentally, is a fabulous set that, along with Hanks' brilliant nuanced ... Read More:

The movies that are created from the stories by Catherine Cookson are always wonderful to watch. The only thing better than reading one of her books is watching the movie adaption of one.
This movie is probably the most historically accurate film that I've seen, so far, on Christopher Columbus. Contrary to what you might have been taught in elementary school the intelligentsia did not think the world was flat. They thought the world was round and was approximately 25,000 miles in circumference at the equator. Columbus thought the circumference at the equator was more like 18,000 miles. (25,000 is correct) Since Marco Polo had traveled by land to Cathay(China) going East for about 12,000 miles, all he would have to do was sail West for 6,000 miles and voila he'd arrive in the Indies. Well, he was wrong, but got lucky and hit the New World instead. I think it is pretty arrogant to say that ... Read More:

Having seen just about every Titanic movie out there, I would have to say that it is a pretty decent film. At least we didn't have to put up with implausible romances, such as Jack and Rose. The romantic story lines are kept within the classes in which they occurred, rather than some ridiculous First-Class/steerage romance.
Oddly, the sinking sequence in this version has more emotional impact than James Cameron's version did. Given the low budget, it was well done. There is a sort of starkness that makes an even deeper emotional impact than Cameron's movie.
My main "beef" is the portrayal of First Officer William Murdoch. In this version, he is made to look like a serious contender for "Developmentally-Developed Merchant Officer of 1912! In ... Read More:
